Add Classes, Attributes, and Associations to a CIM Profile

In the Profile Editor, source CIM classes are displayed in the Class View (left pane). By default, the classes are displayed by folder in View as tree mode, but you can also search for classes in an alphabetical list by clicking the View as list option.

To include a class in the CIM Profile, select or deselect the class from the Class View by clicking the corresponding checkbox. Note that selecting a folder's checkbox in tree view selects all of the classes in that folder, but classes within folders can be individually selected or deselected. Also note that you can adjust a class's multiplicity, root element, and abstract settings when you have that class selected.

When you click on a class in the Class View, the Profile Editor displays that class's attributes and associations in the Detail View on the right. The icon next to an association displays that association's type.

Association Type

Description

Aggregation

An association that indicates that one side is part of the other side.

Association Class

Contains the connectivity properties of an association along with the attributes, operations, and other associations.

Bidirectional

An association with two navigable sides.

Composite

An association similar to but more restrictive than an aggregation. A composite association indicates that one side is part of the other, but one part cannot have this relation with multiple wholes, and the lifetime of the part is bound by that of the whole.

Undirected

An association with two non-navigable sides.

Unidirectional

An association with one navigable sides.

When you select a class, its attributes and associations are not automatically selected. Select or deselect attributes and associations to include in the CIM Profile by clicking the corresponding checkboxes in the Detail View. To add multiple attributes and/or associations at one time, click and drag the pointer until all of the appropriate items are highlighted, and then click one of the highlighted checkboxes. Note that you can adjust an attribute or association's multiplicity settings when you have that attribute or association selected.

By default, the Profile Editor displays only native attributes and associations. To include inherited attributes and associations in the Detail View, select the Show inherited attributes and associations toolbar button.

Note: When you open the Profile Editor to modify an existing CIM Profile, the Show Profile only option is selected by default. To view and add source CIM classes to an existing CIM Profile, you need to deselect the Show Profile only option.
